Obituary for Irene Washington

Irene Washington was born June 24, 1924 in Minter, AL. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Baptist Church and went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning at her resident on January 1, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Prince Washington, Sr., mother, Francis Harris, grandparents, Hardy and Mattie Bell, two brothers, Arthur and Mitchell Harris, three sisters, Mattie Cook, Mary Pettaway and Callie Shelly, her lovely daughter, Gladys Pettaway, granddaughter Erica Wilson and grandson, Larry James.

She leaves to cherish her memories and morn her passing, one sister, Cora Reed; five sons, David (Patrice) George, Prince,Jr., Eric. Labarron and Levi (Cynthia) Washington; five daughters, Lelia (Marion) Collins, Eartha (Marcus) Pettaway, Rebecca Harris, Judy (Marion) Wright and Shirley (Sidney) Murphy; three brothers-in-laws, John (Josephine), Tom (Mary) and West Coleman; nineteen grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, her sisters and brothers in Christ and many friends.

Her remains will lie in state on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 1pm until 8pm at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile, AL. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, 661 South Broad St. Mobile, AL. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Mobile, AL.
