Obituary for James Harris

James "Sonny" Harris, a native of Mt. Vernon, Alabama and a resident of Mobile, Alabama was born October 12, 1938, to the late Jimmy and Annie Mae Harris, departed this life Thursday, September 17, 2009. He was a retired brick mason and a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Howard, Vester Barnes and Louise Turner, and brother, J.C. Harris. He leaves to cherish two devoted daughters, Judy Dees and Crystal Miskel both of Mobile. Son, Jeffrey Washington, four grandchildren, three sisters, Ester Mae (Hugh Lee) Jones of Mt. Vernon. Willie Mae and Mary Alice Harris, two brothers, Stanley and A.G. Harris all of Mobile. Three devoted nephews, Levon Turner of Mt. Vernon, Trinni Turner of St. Stephens, Alabama, Ernest Lee Chapman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Two devoted nieces, Bettie (Isaac) Lewis, Kenyatta Files both of Mt. Vernon. Longtime friend, Leon Hampton of Mt. Vernon. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to the staff at Springhill Senior Residence for their excellent care of Mr. Harris. His remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary on Friday, September 25, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon until the 11:00 funeral hour. Interment will follow at First Baptist Church Cemetery. Dignified and professional services entrusted to Small's Mortuary, 950 South Broad Street, Mobile, Alabama.
