Obituary for James Lawrence

James Prentiss "J.P." Lawrence Jr. departed this life after a brief illness Saturday Jan. 9, 2016 in Mobile, AL. Lawrence was born Jan. 2, 1944 to Genevieve Lawrence and the late James Prentiss Lawrence Sr. He was employed as Executive Director/CEO of the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority No. VIII, and attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Mobile, AL, where he was an active member of the ACTS Sunday School Class.

He was preceded in death by his son, Geoffrey Lawrence.

He is survived and leaves to cherish his memory a loving mother, Genevieve Lawrence of Gulfport; a devoted wife, Linda Carson Lawrence of Mobile, AL; brother, Ronald Lawrence (Valerie) of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Gwen Lawrence Jones (Bobby Joe) of Gulfport, MS and Arna Lawrence Martin (Johnny D.) of Schertz, TX; daughter, Jaime Lawrence of Lauderhill, FL.; stepdaughter, Alicia Theodore of Mobile, AL; stepson, Jeff Theodore of Jersey City, NJ; aunt, Flora Smith; uncle, T. Ray Lawrence, both of Gulfport, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His remains will lie in state at 6pm on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile, AL. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 10am until the 1pm funeral hour at First Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 E. Pass Rd. Gulfport, MS, 39507.
