Obituary for James Taldon Jr.

Deacon James Taldon, Jr. a native of Silver Cross, Alabama and a resident of Prichard, Alabama was born on June 5, 1931 and departed this life on Sunday, April 5, 2015. He was the eldest of 11children born to the union of Mrs. Ruby and Mr. James Taldon, Sr. He served as a medic in the United States Army from 1952 – 1954. He was a devoted member of Aimwell Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Revered T.J. Hale to present, Reverend Michael Jackson, until his health fail. He served as a chairman of the Deacon’s Board for many years. Deacon James Taldon’s, Jr.’s passion was singing, he and his cousin formed a group called “The Morning Stars” they traveled all over the southeast singing. He received many requests to sing one of his favorites songs, “When You Hear of My Home Going.” Deacon James Taldon, Jr. was preceded in death by his mother and father, James (Ruby) Taldon, Sr. mother and father-in-law (Mary) Leonard Mitchell, Sr., four brothers, Robert, Hasting, Willie and Dan Taldon, one sister, Mr. Nona Holley and one son, Dewayne Taldon. He leaves to cherish his precious memories; a wife of 59years, Carrie Mitchell Taldon; four children, Nathan (Edith) Taldon, Roderick Taldon, Angela Taldon and Valeria (Dennis) McGrew, all of Mobile, Alabama; four sisters, Iola Washington, Mobile, Alabama, Nora (Freddy) Merida, LaMarque, Texas. Louise Watkins, Pensacola, Florida and Lena Taldon, Boston, Massachusetts; brothers, Raymond Taldon and Thomas (Rose) Taldon of Boston, Massachusetts; 15 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins (one devoted, Bertha Gamble), other relatives and friends. His remains will lie in state on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 1pm until 8pm at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile, AL. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Aimwell Missionary Baptist Church 500 Earle St. Mobile, AL.
