Mr. James Thomas "Jake" or "The Tree Man" Powe Sr.-- a native of Vinegar Bend, AL., and a longtime resident of Mobile born March 18, 1933 departed this life suddenly Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at a local hospital. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a faithful member of Nazaree Full Gospel where he served on the Senior Usher Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Olivia Powe, brother Jesse and sister, Josephine Powe. He leaves to cherish his memories, five sons, James Jr., Alaska, Jesse, Ontonio, CA., Douglas (Vanessa), Mobile, Jerry (Frankie), Killeen, TX. and Lawrence (Deborah) Powe, two daughters, one devoted and caregiver, Stella (Horace) Christian, Evelyn (James) Carson, two brothers, David (Annie), all of Mobile and Martin (Esther) Powe, Los Angeles, CA., three sisters, Dessie Jenkins, and Corine Williams, both of Chicago, IL., Dorothy Powe, Long Island, NY., a devoted former wife Annie Powe, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, two devoted and neighbor, Joe and Sherrie Little and Susie Nunn. His remains will lie in state Wednesday, March 11, 2009 after 9am until the 11am funeral hour Nazaree Full Gospel Church, Bishop Joseph Phillips, Pastor and Overseer, Interment will follow in the Lawn Haven Cemetery.
