Obituary for Jesse Braggs Sr.

Mr. Jesse James Braggs Sr., 72, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, departed this life on Monday, September 21, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born to the union of the late Margaret and Tommy Braggs on December 1, 1936. Mr. Braggs was a retiree of Chevron USA after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert Shaw, one sister, Mable Braggs Thompson; seven brothers, Lewis Braggs, Harry Braggs, James Braggs, Robert Braggs, Willie Smith, Albert Smith and Jimmy Smith; mother-in-law, Virginia Thurman, father-in-law, Leafus Shaw, sister-in-law, Betty Damon and two brothers-in-law, Robbie Jackson and Willie Thurman. He leaves to cherish his memories a very devoted family, his wife of 50 years, Eloise Shaw Braggs; five children, Cynthia (Derrick) Powe, Jesse (Shelia) Braggs Jr., Larry Braggs, Debra Braggs and Tommy (Casey) Braggs; grandchildren, Torre Braggs, Brandi Powe, Jesse "JB" Braggs, Michelle Braggs, Brittney Braggs, Sophia Braggs, William King, Kelisha Verrett, Chloe Gilliam, Chyna Hunley, Tre Hunley, Chloe Hunley, Carys Hunley, Toccara Palmer and Crystal Gilmore; one great-grandchild, Wanya King; sisters, Mamie Lee Jackson, Erna (Nahorace) Pettway, Deloris (Earl) Parker, Claudette Smith, Sallie Porter, Dorothy Grimes, Gloria Holder and Irma Smith; sister in law, Carrie (Bobby) Jones; brother-in-law, Ronald Thurman, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. His remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary on Friday, Sept. 25 from 1:00 p.m. to 8 p.m., and after 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at Small's Mortuary, until the 1 p.m. funeral hour. Minister Wayne Powe of Montgomery, AL will officiate. Interment will follow in the Catholic Cemetery.
