Obituary for Joe Sonny Cook Sr.

Bro Joe L. "Sonny" Cook Sr. -- a native of Conecuh County, AL., and a longtime resident of Mobile, born January 17, 1939 departed this life Sunday, March 16, 2008 at a local hospital. He was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Mobile, where he served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board, Trustee Board, Laymen, Sunday School and Security. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Cook, mother, Mary Mixon, father, Daniel Cook, sister, Catherine Rayford, two brothers, Curtis Cook and Morris Carter. He leaves to cherish his memories wife, Carolyn Cook, seven sons, Leon (Jackie) Charlie (Jacquies) and Willie (Jackie) Powell, Jerome (Fannette) Cook, Sr. all of Mobile and Joe (Pamela) Cook, Jr., Jacksonville, FL. Michael (Deborah) Bension, Detroit, MI., Maurice Dennis, Seattle, WA., six daughters, Hattie Knight, Atlanta, GA., Sylvia Bonner, Gwendolyn (Andra') Freed and Valerie Banks, all of Mobile and Nedra Banks, Springhill, FL. and Ida Cook, Newnan, GA., two stepchildren, Dwayne and Kenneth Leflore, sister, Evelyn Sutton, two brothers, George Cook, both of Chicago, IL. and Fredrick Cook, Stanton Island, NY, two aunts Annie Bell Cox and Minnie Mixon, two sisters-in-law, Eloise Brown, Mobile, and Stella Cook, Chicago IL. three brothers-in-law, David Brown, Lorenzo and Johnny Evans, all of Mobile, twenty-nine grands, nine great-grands, two godchildren, Randall Wheeler and Monje Gatson, devoted nephew, George Brown, four devoted cousins, Samuel Mixon, James Rankin, Ada Bell Miller and Florie Marshall. His remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary Friday, March 21, 2008 from 1-8pm and Saturday, March 22, 2008 after 9am until the 11am funeral hour Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Mobile, 860 S. Warren St. Dr. W. C. McNeil, pastor and officiating minister. Interment Lawn Haven.
