Obituary for John Kennedy

John Henry Kennedy (Johnny Scar) was born July 14, 1915 in Bessmer, Al. Moved to Mobile, Al as a young man. Passed on Friday,March 27, 2009 at his residence. He was one of seven children born to the late Mr. George and Mary Kennedy - of the Black Foot Indians. He is preceded in death by his sisters, brothers and two sons Jessie Kennedy and Morris "Mohamm" Kennedy, He was a member of Second Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ at a later time in his life. He never missed a day singing and praising God, for his Grace and his Mercy until the end. He was accepted into the United States Coast Guard between 1941 and 1946 for service in the American Merchant Marine where he received an Honorable Discharged. He worked as a Merchant Seaman in Houston, Texas where he shipped out for many years, until he retired in 1986. After retiring he lived with his daughter Annie Ruth (Billy) Poole in Mobile. He leaves to cherish his memories his sons George (Shirley) Kennedy of Orlando, Fl, Willie (Leicha) Kennedy of New York and Newton (Mary) Kennedy of Mobile, six daughters Johnnie Mae (Arthur) Parker, Annie Ruth (Billy) Poole, Brenda (Lonnie) July, Angela (Clifton) Edwards all of Mobile, Gloria Kennedy of New York, and Rosetta (Jimmie) Dunson of Milwaukee, WI. 30 Grandchildren one devoted Jakartha July of Mobile. 34 Great grandchildren, his nephew James Oliver of Mobile, his niece Mrs. Donnie (Kenneth) Whited of Texas, and his cousin, John Matthews of Mobile. A host of other relatives and friends. His remains will lie in state on Friday April 3, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Small's Mortuary and after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday April 4, 2009 at the Second Baptist Church until the 11:00 a.m. funeral hour the Rev. Henry Reese officating and pastor. Interment will follow in the Gethsemane Cemetery. Dignified and professional services entrusted to Small's Mortuary, 950 S. Board Street Mobile, AL.
