Obituary for JOHNNIE CARR (BOOBIE-JUNIOR-JOHN CARR)

Johnnie Lee Carr, affectionately known as â??Boobieâ? â??Juniorâ? and â??John Carrâ?, a native Mobilian passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010, in the comfort of his home. He was preceded in death by his father, Deacon John Carr, Sr., his brother, Arthur Lee Carr, grandfather Yancey (Alberta Webb) Carr, grandmother Annie Bell Means and Uncle Reverend Joe McQueen. Johnnie was the firstborn child to the union of John (deceased) and Leona Means Carr on January 21, 1948. He attended W.H. Council Elementary School and was a â??1966â? graduate of L.B. Williamson High School where he perfected playing drums in the W.H.S. marching band under the direction of Mr. Ullyses Miller. After high school graduation, he joined the United States Army where he completed basic training at Fort Benning, GA and went on to serve three years, stationing in Stuttgart, Germany and was honorably discharged. He returned to the United States and completed First Class Welding Certification at Southwest State Technical College to secure a First Class Welding position at Mobile Shipbuilding for over ten years and leaving there to work at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, currently now Northrop and Gruman Shipbuilding for over 25 years until his demise. His survivors include a loving and devoted wife for 38 years Edna Mary Carr; a loving and devoted mother, Leona Means Carr; one brother, Jimmy (Gwendolyn) Carr of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Irish (Jacob, Sr.) Wilson and Arlene (Michael) Anthony, both of Daphne, AL; four brother-in-laws, Bishop Floyd (Leona) Nelson, Raymond C. Nelson, Bishop DeBruse (Janet) Nelson, Norman (Tonya) Nelson, all of Grand Bay, AL; six sister-in-laws, Gloria (John) Barnett of Detroit, MI, Patricia Hixon, Glenda (Alvin) Hixon, Deborah (James) Tucker, all of Irvington, AL, Selena Leland of Grand Bay, AL and Anett (John) Bowie, Mobile, AL; two aunts, Mary Lee Minnifield and Inez Adams of Birmingham, AL; a host of nieces, four devoted, Crystal (Seneca) Allen, Douglasville, GA, Talitha Carr, Montgomery, AL, Kellie and Micah Anthony, both of Daphne, AL; a host of nephews, two devoted Omar Carr and Jacob P. Wilson, Jr., both of Atlanta, Ga; three great nieces, Jordyn Carlie Allen, Douglasville, GA, Jayde Renee Carr and Zari Simone Carr, Atlanta, GA and one great-nephew, Carter Anthony Davis, of Daphne, AL; a host of friends, two devoted, Joe Ludgood and Jerry Edwards, both of Mobile, AL; a host of relatives, including four devoted cousins, Michael (Selena) and A.D. Wallace Benjamin and William Gray, all of Mobile, AL. His remains will lie in state, Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Smallâ??s Mortuary, Mobile, AL. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral hour in the Smallâ??s Mortuary Chapel, Mobile.
