Johnny Lee “Bubba” Ward, Jr., age 72, a resident of Plateau, Alabama, departed this life on Friday, July 13, 2018
Bubba was a 1964 graduate of Mobile County Training School where he played on the football team as a linebacker. He was a very respected “Whippet” known for his toughness and athleticism.

He was a graduate of Alabama State University with a Master’s Degree in Education. During his tenure as an educator, he taught Social Studies, P.E. and Driver’s Education.

He also dedicated himself to working with children in the Plateau, Prichard and Mobile areas through coaching, refereeing, and mentoring.

Bubba has an array of hobbies including ceramics, landscaping his yard, collecting team apparel and watching old T.V. shows.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Earnestine Singleton Ward (Madea)

He is survived by his father: Johnny Lee Ward, Sr.; his wife: Minnie L. Ward; five children: Olivia Ward, Sonja Ward, Adrienne King, Joe (Raquel) King, Aisha (Marckel) Walker, Tinisha Franklin; three sisters: Margaret Ward-Hawthorne, Mary Ann (Senious) Caldwell, Doris Ward; four brothers: Walter (Sandra) Ward, Michael Derrick (Grennetta) Ward, Marieo Parrish, Marcini (Tamel) Parrish; 16 grandchildren, three devoted: Kulah, Kiyra, and Cameron; one great-grandchild; a host of other relatives and friends.

His remains will lie in state on, Friday, July 20, 1-8pm at Small’s Mobile and continue on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 506 Bay Bridge Road, Plateau, AL Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Mobile, AL.
