Obituary for Katherine Henry

Mrs. Katherine Yvonne Henry- retired Mobile County Health Department Employee, was born in Mobile, Alabama on December 17, 1933, beloved daughter of Louise Edwards and T. J. Williams (both preceded her in death). She departed this life on Thursday, December 7, 2006 following a lengthy illness. Her devoted and loving husband, Deacon Lee Henry, preceded her in death. Sister Henry loved Jesus and her family. Her family sincerely mourns the lost of this dynamic woman of monumental faith. Sister Henry accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and served diligently as a devoted choir member at Mt. Olive Baptist Church No. 2 and St. James Missionary Baptist Church for more than four decades. Family and friends will miss her anointed soprano solo voice. Sister Henry was a devoted mother to her children and served as a mentor to many children in her community. She loved everyone's children. She believed that children were a gift from God and that they deserved the best that life had to offer, starting with a quality education. One could always see Sister Henry driving a group of children to various functions. She was everyone's Mother and Aunt. She was an effective role model that remained active in the community even during her illness. She understood young people and always defended them even when they were obviously in need of behavior modification. Sister Henry was a life-long missionary. She devoted her life to helping others. In addition to being an accomplished singer, she was also a talented seamstress as well as a wonderful cook. Her children loved her culinary skills on Sundays and holidays. She could "throw down in the kitchen." Sister Henry attended the Mobile Public Schools and later in life she earned an associate degree in education from Bishop State College, Mobile, Alabama. Sister Henry is survived by five (5) children, Dr. Sandra Williams Leconte, Round Lake Beach, Illinois, Mr. Samuel A. Williams, Mobile, Alabama, Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer, Kenneth G. Williams (Glovis), Killeen, Texas, Ms. Annette D. Williams, Mobile, Alabama, and Minister Clayton O. Henry (Yvette), North Chicago, Illinois. Nine (9) grandchildren, Nicole C.
