Obituary

Leo Gibby was born September 11, 1927, in Barlow Bend, AL. He answered the Master’s call on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Zannie & Ada Fleming Gibby, his siblings; Zannie L. Gibby, Ola Mae Campbell, Ruby Bass, Henry (Buddy) Gibby, Eddie (W. D.) Gibby, Andrew (A. C.) Gibby and Fredonia Ely.
At an early age he accepted Christ in his life and was baptized at the Union Chapel Baptist Church (Barlow Bend, AL) under the pastorate of the late Rev. J. B. Dixon. He later united with Revelation Missionary Baptist Church (Mobile, AL), under the leadership of Dr. Leon Taylor. He served faithfully on the Deacons’ Ministry, Director of the Baptist Training Union, Laymen Brotherhood and Male Chorus. As a child growing up in Barlow Bend, he attended the James Chapel School. In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country faithfully until retiring in 1972.
Once returning to Mobile, he was employed with International Paper Company where he retired in 1992.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory three children: Linbert (Leo/L.B.) & Bonnie Davis of San Diego, CA; Louphelia (Victor) Simmons of Birmingham, AL and Samantha (Fredrick) Lutin of Mobile, AL; three sisters, Ernestine Scott, Luverta King and Cassie (Beauford) Perkins all of Mobile, AL; two sister in laws, Hattie Bell Gibby of Barlow Bend, AL and Mary Stinson of Dolton, IL; seven grandchildren, Ian (Kerry) Campbell-Davis of Framingham, MA, Brian and Matthew Simmons of Birmingham, AL, Alandria, Jaycob, Savannah and Zaylah Lutin all of Mobile, AL; one great granddaughter, Claire Campbell-Davis, Framingham, MA. A loving and devoted nephew Keith Gibby, Mobile, AL; two goddaughters; Anitra Blanchard of Jacksonville, FL and Kristen Gibbs Sayles of Mobile, AL; five dedicated friends; Dea. Donald Turner, Dea. Carl Freeman, Dea. Johnny Kennedy, Harold Moore and Tony Carter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a loving church family.
