Obituary for Leon Jones

Deacon Leon Jones, age 74, was born to William Jones and Leola Fraizer Goldsby on November 7, 1943 in Prichard, AL. Deacon Jones transitioned to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 19, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Sister Doris Delois Montgomery Jones; two brothers; and two sisters.

He was a 1961 graduate of Mattie T. Blount High School and served in the US Army & US Army Reserve from 1962—1968. Deacon Jones spent 30 years of his life in Washington, D.C. where he retired from the Washington Area Transit Authority (METRO) in 1996. After retirement, he and Sister Jones returned to their childhood home of Prichard. He was a resident of Eight Mile, AL for the last 22 years. Deacon Jones became an active member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church and was ordained a deacon in 2002.

He leaves to cherish his memories one daughter: Lisa Marie Jones; one granddaughter: Janae Marie (Phillip) Tross; one great grandson: Jaylen Micah Tross (another great grandson is due to arrive August 2018); a host of beloved nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; one goddaughter; several lifelong friends and a loving church family.

Viewing is Sunday, July 29, 2018, 5—7 pm at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile . A visitation will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 from 10 o’clock until the 11 o’clock “Homegoing Celebration” hour at Friendship P.B. Church, 819 St. Stephens Road, Prichard, AL, officiating is Rev. Robert J. Emanuel, Jr. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, 800 Mobile Street, Mobile, AL.
