Obituary for Leon Smith Jr.

LEON SMITH, JR. was the oldest child and only son born to Leon and Rosie Brown Smith on October 12, 1967 in Mobile Alabama. He departed this life on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at his home. He was preceded in death by his Father, Leon Smith Sr., Grandparents Frank and Allie Russell Brown, Eugene Smith and Methard Smith Brooks, and Mrs. Bertha Alexander, uncles, aunts, cousins and a godchild.

He received his early education at Most Pure Heart of Mary, Saint Joan of Arc and Saint Catherine Schools. He graduated from McGill Toolen Catholic School 1986. He furthered his education at Carver State Technical School and Faulkner State College. He met Charity Rembert and they entered into holy wedlock on July 4 1995 and for the rest of his life she was his helpmate - a loyal, dedicated, and faithful wife.

Leon was a trained chef and emergency medical technician. He worked at Bishop State Community College and various other occupations. He was a hardworking, gentle person and kind. He loved his family & enjoyed family gatherings and church activities until his health failed.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Charity Smith; children, Breanna, Simone, and Leon Smith, III and Jai Rembert; his mother, Rosie Brown Smith; a sister, Erica Smith Pope; grandchildren, Elijah and Jadon Rembert; also surviving him are great aunts, Cora Russell Lee and Thelma (Willie) Thomas; mother in law, Lorraine Rembert; uncles, L.C., Rubin (Bettye), Frank, (Clyniece) Albert, Gary ( Cynthia) , Michael, Joe P. and William Brown; Roy, Charles, Robert C., Melvin Smith and Gerald Rembert; aunts, Lola Feurtado, Deloris McCants Evelyn Brown, Acquinetta Brown, Casasandra Rena Brown, Janie Smith, Sally (Rhuey) Jackson, Claretha Patterson, Sharion Wilson and Phyllis Rembert; nieces, Adrienne J. Pope ,Ty’Unna, Carmeisha, Kiara, Kylie, Destini, Miyona, and Pamala; nephews, Durrell Smith, Charles, Justin, Sidney IV, Damarius, Carlos, Kameron , Charles Grandnieces Apprincess Ginyard and Apprentice Ginyard; sisters in law, Kelita (Sydney) Sawyer, Sonjme Overstreet, and Nina Watts; brother -in- law, Charles (Pamela) Rembert of Jacksonville Florida; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

His remains will lie in state on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 1pm until 8pm at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile, AL. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Greater Morning Star Baptist Church, 410 Donald St. Mobile, AL. Interment will follow in Whispering Pines Cemetery, Eight Mile, AL.
