Obituary for Lonnie Charles Wilson Sr.

Deacon Lonnie Charles Wilson a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, was born in Camden, AL on June 4, 1946 to David and Clara Wilson. He exchanged life for divine eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 22, 2016.

Deacon Wilson confessed Christ early in life and joined the Rock West Lutheran Church under the leadership of the late Johnny Brown. He was raised by his grandmother Esther Wilson whom he loved dearly. At the age of 18 he moved to Mobile, AL and united with Mount Calvary Lutheran Church where the late Dr. Albert Dominick was pastor. In 1988 he joined Truevine Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Howard Johnson. He was ordained as a deacon in 1999 and served faithfully until his health began to fail. He also served as a layman, bus driver, and cook at the church. The members enjoyed the delicious breakfast that he prepared on 2nd Sundays. During his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and playing dominos and checkers with his family and friends. Lonnie will be dearly missed by his family, church family, community, and friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by: Robert Wilson, brother; Esther Wilson, grandmother; David and Clara Wilson, parents; Charelle Pettaway, devoted loving granddaughter; sister in laws: Eunice Scott, Rosemary Leatherwood Chambers, Patricia Scott and Amanda Leatherwood; brother in law, PFC James Leatherwood.

He leaves to cherish a loving and devoted wife of 49 years who he loved very dearly, Shirley Wilson; devoted children, Lonnie Wilson Jr., Minister Trevan (Arnedra) Wilson and Kellye Wilson; loving and devoted grandchildren, JaLonnie Pettaway, Trecia Wilson, Trelan Wilson, Treana Wilson and Madison Arnold all of Mobile, AL; devoted sister, Rosa (Aaron)Jackson of Thomasville, AL ; devoted brothers, David (Melinda) Wilson of Southfield, MI, Houston (Angela) Wilson of Camden, AL, and Jessie (Willie)Wilson of Lansing, MI; sister in law, Gloria (Walter) Williams of Mobile, AL; brother in laws, David Scott of Mobile, AL and Silas W. Leatherwood, III of San Antonio, California; two aunts: Rosa Dunn of Lanett, AL and Carolyn Hardely of Pensacola, FL; devoted cousins: Herbert Pettway, Johnny Wilson and James Wilson; devoted nieces, Chantaye Scott, Bronwyn Wilson, Adrienna (Charles) Penn, Jamie (Carlos) Boyd, April James and Ashley Maddox; devoted nephews, Timothy (Carrie) Scott, Courtney (Tonika) Scott, Roshikki (Claudia) Leatherwood, Damion Chambers, Darrelle Leatherwood, Robert Irby; great nieces, Jamilya Gable, Kieara Leatherwood, Charmaine Penn, Chelcy Penn, Adrienna Penn, Jada Penn, Artavia Penn, Kayla Wilson, Brooke Leatherwood, Taylor Scott, Jalicia Scott, Juronica Scott; great nephews, Joshua Scott, Don Wilson, Jr., James Leatherwood, Darnell Leatherwood, Charles Penn, LaDaniel Wilson, and Christopher Alexander. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 26 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, 1859 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Mobile, AL. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Mobile, AL.
