Luegene Powell, Sr., ""Big Gene", a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL was born August 14, 1948 and departed this life on Thursday, November 19, 2009. He was a retired employee of GAF Corporation. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving wife, Linda F. Powell of Mobile, AL, four sons, 1st Sargent Carlos Dobbs (U.S. Army Korea), Luegene (Ashleigh) Powell, Jr., Jermaine Ely and Frederick Powell, all of Mobile, AL, five sisters, Nadine Stallworth of Buffalo, NY, Loretta (Reuben) Johnson and Laura Powell, both of Detroit, MI, Kathryn Thompson and Yvonne Powell of Philadelphia, PA, two brothers, Liddell (Eartha) Knight of Philadelphia, PA and Clarence Powell of Shreaveport, LA, twelve grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, one aunt, Ruby Simpson of Philadelphia, PA, one uncle, Abraham Hunter of Minter, AL. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends. His remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. funeral hour on Saturday, November 28, 2009, in the Small's Mortuary Chapel, Mobile, Alabama, with the Rev. John H. Nash of Shreaveport, LA, officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Crest Cemetery, Dauphin Island Parkway. Dignified and professional services entrusted to Small's Mortuary, 950 S. Broad Street, Mobile, Alabama.
