Obituary for Lydia Harper

Lydia "momma" Harper-- a native of Gainesville, AL. and a resident of Mobile born May 15, 1914 to the union of Henry and Lena McDowell, departed this life peacefully Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at her residence. Momma was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life M.C. Harper, son, William Brown, two brothers and three sisters. She leaves to cherish her memories son, Theodore (Patricia) Brown, Cleveland, OH., daughter, Dorothy and a devoted son-in-law (Clinton) Carstarphen Sr., daughter-in-law, Margaret Brown, Cleveland, OH., step daughter, Mattie Mae Cook, all of Mobile, dedicated and devoted granddaughter and caregiver, Faye Christian, Mobile, sixteen grandchildren of which five she raised as her own, Jerry, Morris, Faye, Beverly and Anthony, fifteen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Her remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary Friday, April 17, 2009 from 1-8pm and Saturday, April 18, 2009 after 9am until the 11am funeral hour St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, 661 S. Broad St. Dr. James C. Taylor Jr. Pastor and Officiating Minister. Interment will follow in the Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Dignified and professional services entrusted to Small's Mortuary 950 S. Broad St. Mobile, AL.
