Mary Belle Lee-Dortch was born on November 14, 1943, to Willie and Elvie Lee in Mobile, Alabama. She graduated from Central High School. She confessed Christ at early age and joined Mount Olive #2 under the leadership of Pastor Weaver. She later joined Saint James Missionary Baptist Church with her late husband. She worked as a cook at various schools with Council, Woodcock and Craighead to name a few along with Dauphin Way United Methodist Church Daycare. She departed this life on Monday, June 22, 2020 at a local nursing facility at the age of 76.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband ( Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Dortch), in-laws. Five children Alvin Henry, Sandra (Rev. Jessie) Simmons, Patricia Williams and Clara Henry. Three brothers Ocie Lee, Arthur Lee, and John Lee, two sisters Ruby Nell Ponds and Ida Pearl Williams and an uncle Daniel Dortch.
She leaves to cherish her memories two loving and devoted sons: Eric (Lavon) Sanders of Montgomery, AL. and Marlon (Angela) Sanders of Mobile, AL.; Two daughters Jacqueline (Cleveland) Smith of Monroeville, AL and Rebbie (Darren) Miller. Four brothers-in-law Peter (Elizabeth) Dortch, of Washington D.C. Rev. Alvin L. Dortch, Sidney Dortch, and Roger (Barbara) Dortch, all Montgomery, AL. Three sisters-in-law Margaret Ann Saffo, of Mobile, Al. Mary (Robert) Perry, and Sharon (George). One devoted daughter-in-law Hazel Henry. One Devoted Aunt Janice Dortch. A host of Grandchildren, two devoted Marlon Jr. (Bo) and Alexia (Justin), Don (Connie) , Lebarron (Barbara), Cleveland Jr., Dominique, Ashley (Antonio), Dinnie, Lakeisha, Jamal, and Jeremy. A host great-grandchildren.
Sis. Dortch leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of extended family and friends to carry on her legacy. She loved life and the fullness thereof and was a very loving and caring person. She had an open and loving and always made you feel special. She will be remembered for the passionate love she had for Jesus Christ and for her children and church. Her unwavering faith, loving smile, laughter, good cooking, and sense of humor will forever be her hallmark.
The family of the late Sis. Mary Bell Lee Dortch would like to express our sincerest thanks and appreciation for the many act of kindness shown to our family during this difficult time. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church Family, Old Landmark Association, Ministers, Minister Wives, Deacons, and Deaconess. We thank the Mobile Infirmary Hospital and SAAD Hospice Care for their compassionate care.
