Obituary for Oliver Brazile

Oliver  Brazile
Oliver Nathaniel Brazile(Shug), a native of Mobile, Alabama. He was born October 10, 1934 and passed this life on Friday, July 20, 2018. Oliver was a lifelong member of the Mt. Carmel Church Ministries, he was a member of the Mt. Carmel Church Music ministry. Oliver was blessed with the gift of playing the piano and organ, never received any formal training. He was the Minister of music for St. James AME Primitive Church, Prichard where he served faithfully for over twenty five years. Oliver was also a member of the Mobile County Mass Choir.
Oliver was a proud 1953 graduate of Mobile County Training School. He was always the designated griller at the reunions.

After graduation he served in the United States Army where he received an honorary discharge. He was also a retired truck driver (AAA Cooper and Poole Transfer).

He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Mary Brazile; wife Dorothy Williams Brazile for over fifty years; brothers Clovice Brazile, Wilson Brazile, Earl(Lucy) Brazile; sisters, Bertha(William) Sims, Marrissetta(Vernon) Rencher, Myrtle(Louis Jr.) Colston, Dorothy(Morris Sr.) Chestang, Irene(A.D.) Gibbs and Cleo Lee.

Those left to cherish his precious memories are his devoted companion: Clara Carter, one devoted brother: Robert(Ola Mae) Brazile, Sr.; sister-in-law: Margie Brazile, Cape Cod, MA; brother-in-law: Alfred Lee, Sr.; and devoted goddaughter: Brandi Chestang, Panama City, Fl; he was love by these children: Leenell Carter, Jr, John Carter, Gail Kyles, Lawana Howzie and Debra Carter; devoted granddaughter: Ashley Hunt.

Oliver is also survived by several devoted nephews: Robert Brazile, Jr., Victor Brazile, Joseph Brazile Sr., Kenneth Brazile, Gregory Brazile, Lanier Brazile, Eural Chestang, Morris Chestang, Daryl Colston Sr., Louis Colston, IV, Anthony Gibbs, Cleon Gulley, Reginald Gulley Sr., Dennis Lee and Kelvin Lee; great-nephew: Jason Oliver Lee, who was just like sons to him. He loved to go fishing and spend time with his nephews. He spent the last days before his accident with his nephew, Reginald Gulley watching old movies. He is also survived by several nieces (one devoted, who was also his classmate): Gwendolyn Hickman.

His remains will lie in state on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 1pm–8pm at Small’s Mortuary, Mobile. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 9am until the 11am funeral hour at St. James AME Church, 209 North Joseph Avenue, Prichard, AL.

Interment will follow in Alabama State Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort, Alabama.
