Obituary for R Speights

R. L. Speights-- a native of Emelle, AL. and a resident of Mobile born January 15, 1920 departed this life Wednesday, November 26, 2008. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired Longshoreman for the Merchant Marine. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice May Speights, daughter, Fleda Dyess, granddaughter, Jackie Matchett, father, Sandy Speights, mother, Lucy Rencher, two sisters, Emma Smoots and Bertha Yarbrough, two brothers, James Tompkin and Arthur Speights. He leaves to cherish his memories, four sisters, Minnie Sykes, Mobile, Ella Mary Turner, Stone Mountain, GA., Lubrida Harrer, Bessemer, AL., and Dixie Napier, brother, Robert (Mary) Speights, both of New York, three grandchildren, John W., Thomas, and Clifton W. Dyess, all of Mobile, one great grandson, Jonathan Matchett, one great, great-grandson. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Coastal Hospice and Mobile Infirmary Med. Ctr. His remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary Friday, December 5, 2008 from 1-8pm and Saturday, December 6, 2008 after 9am until the 11am funeral hour Delaware Street Baptist Church, Interment will follow in the Pine Crest Cemetery. Dignified and professional services entrusted to Smalls Mortuary 950 S. Broad St. Mobile, AL 36603.
