Obituary for Wilton Hayes

Mr. Wilton "Buddy" Hayes, age 101, a native of Shubuta, Mississippi and a resident of Mobile, Alabama was born August 20, 1908 and departed this life on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Annie Ruth Todd, parents, Prince and Lillian Hayes. He leaves to cherish one devoted daughter, Verdell Hayes Hughes. Twelve grandchildren, one devoted, Vera (Dave) Phillips, Vincent (Paula) Hughes, Jessie Hughes Jr., Wilton (Catherine) Todd, Belinda Figgers, Bernadette (Michael) Harris, Wanda (Scottie) Gray and Octavia Hughes. Thirteen great-grandchildren, six great, great grandchildren, four sisters, one brother and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. His remains will lie in state at Small's Mortuary Friday, September 25, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 26, 2009 after 10:00 a.m. at Metropolitan A.M.E. Church, 750 MLK Ave. until the 12:00 p.m. funeral hour with Rev. Charlotte Greene, Officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama. Dignified and professional services entrusted to Small's Mortuary, 950 South Broad Street.
